The month of May is observed annually throughout our nation as Older Americans Month. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Engage at Every Age.” The idea is that you’re never too old (or too young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
What special interests might you explore during this month that could “expand your horizons” or bring a new spring to your step? Throughout this month, let’s remember to celebrate the seniors we serve and the wonderful co-workers we work beside.
Besides special activities for our residents, we have a few special treats planned for our associates as well. On May 1 (Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker), we enjoyed cookies in the break rooms. On May 23, we will have cake and punch in the McGovern Activity Room at 2 p.m. to allow all staff to come together and celebrate our co-workers who are being recognized for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service. Together, these 39 associates have given over 400 years of service to NLC! Also at this event, the 2018 Mission Award will be presented to Janet Vise. Finally, on May 29 we will enjoy an ice cream social at 2 p.m. in the McGovern Activity Room and in the dining rooms on both floors of St. Joseph Manor. Come enjoy a sweet treat with our residents and your co-workers.
In May and throughout the year, let’s all decide to “Engage at Every Age!”. To learn more, check out the government website.
