Standard of Care

Nazareth's greatest strength is our reputation for quality care for older adults. Nazareth practices "person-centered care," a philosophy that:
  • respects the individual needs and desires of each person;
  • honors the life patterns and accomplishments of every person within the setting;
  • supports opportunities for continued growth; enables residents to make community contributions;
  • encourages meaningful connections with family and the community;
  • and fosters fun.

This results in a healthy interdependency between staff and residents, creating a home-like, welcoming environment.

Nazareth residents are assigned to a care team. Since employee turnover is minimal, residents can count on a familiar team who dispense at least one hug a day as part of a standard of personal care.

Annual surveys of residents and their families show high levels of satisfaction with Nazareth and the care provided here. In 2003, Nazareth received a "Champion of Older Americans" award from SSM Health Care Senior Services and St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood.

Nazareth's not-for-profit status implies quality. According to figures based on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data, not-for-profit nursing homes:

  • provide more hours of care per patient day;
  • invest more resources in resident care; and,
  • average significantly fewer deficiencies than for-profit homes.
