NAZARETH LIVING CENTER MOVES FORWARD WITH CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The Village expansion continues to move toward a successful finish. Appliance and cabinets, flooring and final painting are all underway. The fire panel has been expanded to include the new structure; the Fire Marshal has been in to test the system. Other building inspections will begin in February followed by furniture for the public areas in March. The first move-ins of the 46 apartments reserved are scheduled for April 3, 2017. We are scheduling 2 per day which at that pace will essentially fill the building by mid-May. That’s only 14 months ahead of projections!
St. Joseph’s Home (SJH) exterior is about 60% complete with the south and west walls yet to get the siding. We had several deliveries of drywall materials as that work continues on the east and west wing. The weather cooperated and allowed the crew to pour concrete for the front porch. The former priest quarters’ roof was replaced this week because of deterioration and needing to be sturdy enough for some roof-top units to ventilate SJH. We are planning for a late April completion.
Something new has been added to the campus renewal – replacing Gleason Hall. Built in 1965, Gleason Hall was built as a convent and converted to assisted living in 1992. The 50+ year old building requires a significant financial investment to meet future resident needs. Nazareth’s 3 primary decision-making groups – the Board of Trustees, the Sisters of St Joseph (CSJs) and the Benedictine Health System – have approved proceeding with the replacement of Gleason Hall with a new 60 unit assisted living facility. The projected timeline for demolition of the old building and construction of the new is approximately 18 months. The project will begin once the memory care assisted living – St. Joseph’s Home – is complete.
Because Gleason Hall will need to be removed for new construction to begin, current Gleason Hall residents will need to relocate. We are working to identify the best options to accommodate current Gleason Hall residents’ needs either at the new St. Joseph’s Home or at another location. We will be assisting the residents individually to help identify the best situation to meet their individual needs and safety. There are many details that are yet to be worked out. We will be sharing information as it becomes available.
Keep the project and the workers in your prayers. Remember to check the web cameras. If you have questions, feel free to contact me.
