NLC Continues Move To PCC Culture

NLC continues to focus on Person Centered Care (PCC), a major cultural shift.  PCC focuses on resident-directed care, where staff works with each person to determine his or her daily life needs based on their personal preferences.  The shift replaces the former medical model which was the standard for senior living campuses for years.  In order to ensure PCC becomes the norm, NLC staff participated in two work groups:  one work group focused on interviewing residents and caregivers regarding their needs at Nazareth and identifying areas of satisfaction as well as those that could be improved; a second work group developed a platform for introducing and training employees on this fundamental concept.

The following principles of PCC will soon be evident in daily life at NLC.

1. Enable residents to have satisfying lives

2. Provide individualized living spaces

3. Empower all staff

4. Acknowledge and honor residents’ lifelong patterns

5. Provide opportunities for staff

6. Encourage residents, staff and families to participate

7. Be “good neighbors”

8. Promote a healthy spirit
